The flag of Germany is the civil flag, the flag state and the merchant flag of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The German national flag or Bundesflagge (federal flag), which includes only three black-red-gold bands, is introduced by the constitution of West Germany in 19492. After the subsequent establishment of government and military flags distinct, simple tricolor now serves as a civil flag and civil ensign. It is also used by non-federal authorities to show their relationship with the federal government: for example, the Länder authorities use the national flag with their own flag.
